Describing someone's work life

The unit explores the vocabulary and syntax needed to hold an advanced intermediate conversation about someone's work and family life. Students follow the story of Mr. Martin, who suddenly changes his career path. Using the case study, students explore the terminology necessary to discuss their work, possible issues, or decision-making.

Hours: Approximately 16 hours

Unit Objectives:

  1. By the end of the unit, you should be able to:
    • Describe someone's work and family life: Where they worked, if there were any issues, what they did to resolve the possible problems, the outcome of their decisions, etc. 
    • Ask questions about someone's work and family: Where they worked, if there were any issues, what they did to resolve the possible problems, the outcome of their decisions, etc.
  2. The unit explores vocabulary used to discuss people's work and family lives. It presents students with the language needed to formulate answers and ask questions. Guided exercises are paired with conversational activities to help students acquire a vocabulary best suited to their daily use.
