How You’ll Learn with Us

Personalized, speaking-first language courses for adults in Geneva, designed to build real-life communication skills through small, interactive learning formats.

Each lesson is built around real-life situations, so what you practice in class is exactly what you’ll use at work, in daily life, or for the FIDE exam.

Most importantly, we focus on communication. Quick results come when learning feels natural, useful, and fun — and that’s what we aim to deliver.

We believe the fastest way to fluency is through active participation.

Our method is intuitive: instead of memorizing grammar rules, you discover how the language works naturally by using it. Mistakes aren’t something to fear — they’re part of the journey, and every attempt brings you closer to fluency.

My Linguisitcs - Mindmap

For adults who hesitate to speak — especially at the beginning

This approach is designed for adult learners who want to start speaking from the very first lessons, whether they are starting from zero or returning to a language learned in the past.

Is My Linguistics the right fit for you?

Our approach works especially well for adults who:

  • Want active participation in every lesson, with speaking practice supported by guided listening
  • Prefer small, interactive learning formats
  • Learn best through real-life situations
  • Prefer discovering language structure and grammar through use rather than through theory-focused explanations

It may not be the ideal choice if you:

  • Prefer large, lecture-style classes
  • Enjoy learning through detailed grammar explanations and theory
  • Prefer a traditional, textbook-driven curriculum
  • Feel more comfortable mastering grammar step-by-step before starting to speak

Personalized, speaking-first language courses for adults in Geneva, designed to build real-life communication skills through small, interactive learning formats.

Our language school offers French and English courses, including private and group lessons, tailored to suit all learning styles.

Language courses:

  • French courses
  • English courses

Language courses in Geneva come at varying prices. At My Linguistics, prices range from 100 CHF / hour to 120 CHF / hour for individual and group courses. For group courses, this is just 35 CHF an hour per person.

Special offers: Depending on the time of year and the schedule requested (beginning and end dates), we occasionally offer special pricing on courses. The best is to contact us directly and ask.

Absolutely. We understand that sometimes you need to learn widely-used languages like French or English quickly, whether that’s for school, work, or simply daily use in Switzerland. Our intensive French courses are popular and have a high success rate among our students.

Additionally, for those who have very little time to learn English or maybe even need a refresher course, we recommend our intensive English courses.

Our English, FIDE and French courses are designed for individuals and companies looking to improve their language skills in French, English, or other languages.

Our language courses aim to help you navigate everyday life, achieve your language passport, and meet your personal or professional objectives.

We don’t use a single unique methodology. Our classes are designed to combine a wide range of methods and approaches, delivering them to students in a way that favors long-term retention. This means, for example, that classes do not focus on assessing your knowledge of grammar theory.

It does not mean that you do not learn the grammar of the language; you are taught it in a way that focuses on the practical use of the language rather than imparting theoretical knowledge. This is achieved through a variety of exercises that focus on you exchanging with the teacher and participants during class.

The time needed to improve your English or French language skills depends on your starting level, learning pace, and goals. At My Linguistics, our structured approach ensures rapid progress through real-life situations and active speaking. Beginners can typically progress to a A2 basic conversational level within 40 hours spread out over a few months. With personalized lesson plans, and immersive learning techniques, we help learners build confidence and communication skills as efficiently as possible.

This decision depends on factors such as your schedule, whether you enjoy learning with others, and financial considerations. Private classes give you the flexibility to learn at our own time and your own pace and focus on specific language skills. While this may be less important at the beginner level, it becomes especially valuable at higher levels, where we can concentrate on your individual challenges to fast-track your progress.

We don’t follow a strict academic calendar or fixed semester dates, but group classes usually begin in September/October, mid-January, and June. The courses—especially at beginner levels—are structured in terms of progression, which makes it difficult to join midway.

These levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which measures language proficiency:

A1 (Beginner): Understands and uses basic phrases and words, introduces themselves, and interacts simply.

A2 (Elementary): Can handle everyday situations, ask and answer simple questions, and navigate familiar conversations.

B1 (Intermediate): Communicates more freely, discusses familiar topics, and manages work or social interactions.

B2 (Upper-Intermediate): Expresses ideas clearly, engages in more complex discussions, and understands detailed texts.

My Linguistics article on CEFR (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2)

Classes are taught primarily in the target language (French for French, English for English), with support from the learner’s native language or another common language when needed. At beginner levels, this support is used more frequently, but as students progress, we aim to stay in the target language as much as possible, reverting only when explanations or vocabulary require clarification.
